It's National Dog Day!
Let’s Celebrate National Dog Day!
Today we recognize our furry friends for being great companions. Pet lifestyle expert Colleen Page founded this day of celebration in 2004. Dogs are great playmates; they keep us safe and serve those who might need extra help and protection. Did you know petting a dog lowers your blood pressure? Recently, I was at Ojo Spa and Wellness Resort in Santa Fe, New Mexico. They have a “puppy patch” on site to help their guests relax and unwind. The pups are up for adoption as well. Many of them find new forever homes.
You can celebrate National Dog Day by visiting a local animal shelter. Maybe you are in search of a new companion. Today would be ideal for connecting with a special dog and giving them a new home. You could also donate some supplies. Contact the animal shelter in your area and see what they need!
If you have a pet, consider a new toy! Milly’s favorite toy is a stuffed doughnut (I’ll take a filled doughnut), or maybe it’s her little friend Leo. He’s a mix of who knows what and about a quarter of her size. Don’t worry; he can definitely hold his own!!
If you grab a coffee today, head to Starbucks and get a Puppuccino for your pet! Be sure and take a little video of the drinking process.
Did you know?
A dog’s nose print is unique, much like a human’s fingerprint.
Dogs only have sweat glands in their paws.
Dogs curl up in a ball when they sleep instinctively to keep them warm and protect their abdomen and vital organs from predators.
Fun Fact (which is included since Milly is the same breed)!
The tallest dog in the world ever was a Great Dane named Zeus. He measured 44 inches tall on October 4, 2011.
Have a great day celebrating with your canine companion(s). Be sure to check out all of Silly Milly the Dane’s books. They are guaranteed to make your child giggle and feel like they have their own big dog!
